The title of “State Record Holder” confers upon a person the highest standing among trophy fish anglers. It is bestowed upon anglers who break the current records for the largest trophy fish caught in Virginia Waters. Persons who land record size freshwater fish are honored with a State Record plaque.
To qualify for a state record the fish must be examined by a fisheries biologist from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. In addition, the angler must adhere to all other rules for certifying a state record fish.
