2019 Hunting & Trapping Regulatory Cycle Timeline

(For regulations to be in effect during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 hunting and trapping seasons)

October 15, 2018 – Dececmber 14, 2018

Public Scoping Period. 

In consultation with constituent groups and individuals, DGIF Wildlife Resource staff assesses constituent and agency regulatory concerns, and ideas for changes. Public participation and input is solicited.

January 23 and 24, 2019

DGIF Board Meetings – Preliminary Review of Issues

Wildlife Resources staffs will review significant issues identified during the public scoping period and seek Board input on potential regulation amendment issues.

December 15, 2018 – Early March 2019

Committee Recommendation Development Period

Wildlife Resources species regulation committees analyze biological and sociological data relevant to regulatory issues, to include:

  • Public input received during the public scoping period;
  • Constituent satisfaction survey results;
  • Further meetings, with individuals or constituent groups, during the public scoping period and/or committee development period
  • Results of continuous, ongoing feedback from the public.    

Wildlife Resources staff core group for regulation developments meets mid-February. Wildlife Resources develops Proposal-Stage Recommendations for amendments to hunting and trapping regulations, and submits them for review by the Office of the Attorney General.

March 20, 2019

Wildlife, Boat, and Law Enforcement (WBL) Committee Meeting

  1. Wildlife Resources staffs present proposal-stage recommendations for terrestrial wildlife to the Committee for its review and consideration.
  2. Public comment is accepted by the Committee relative to recommendations and/or additional recommendations of the public.
March 21, 2019

Hunting and Trapping “Proposal Stage” Board Meeting.

  1. Wildlife Resources staffs present proposal-stage committee recommendations for terrestrial wildlife to the Board for its review and consideration.
  2. The Board accepts public comments on recommendations and considers additional recommendations from the public.
  3. The Board deliberates and votes to propose regulation amendments.
April 1, 2019 – May 15, 2019

Regulation Proposal Public Comment Period

  1. Public input is solicited and received on Board regulation proposals.
  2. No public meetings will be held unless there is a contentious issue to be addressed.
May 29, 2019

  1. Wildlife Resources staffs present committee final recommendations for terrestrial wildlife to the Committee for its review and consideration.
  2. Public comment is accepted by the Committee relative to Board regulation proposals and final recommendations.
May 30, 2019

Hunting and Trapping Regulation “Final Action” Board Meeting.

  1. Wildlife Resources staffs present final recommendations for terrestrial wildlife to the Board for its review and consideration.
  2. The Board accepts public comments on final recommendations and Board regulation proposals.
  3. The Board deliberates and, as desired, votes to adopt regulation amendments.
August 1, 2019

Effective date for regulation amendments adopted by the Board.
