Did You Know?

Although the activity area of adults is usually less than an acre, juveniles have been known to travel up to three miles from where they were born.

Role in the Web of Life

Breeds from May-August in shallow bodies of freshwater such as ponds, marshes, woodland pools and swamps. However, they will also inhabit slow moving streams and creeks. Females may deposit up to 7,000 eggs in shallow vegetated areas, which may take up to three months to develop. Their advertisement call resembles the pluck of a banjo string given in a series of two or three notes. When startled, this frog may “yelp” as it jumps into the water.
