Doe Creek WMA: Limited Hunting Opportunities Due to Abnormally Dry ConditionsAt this time, limited hunting opportunities are available due to abnormally dry conditions. For other opportunities for walk-in waterfowl hunting on the Eastern Shore, please check out Saxis WMA or Mockhorn Island - GATR Tract.

The Doe Creek Wildlife Management Area is located on the bay side of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, near the Town of Onancock in Accomack County.

Doe Creek WMA is composed mostly of upland pine and hardwood mixed forest. The 447-acre tract also includes managed impoundments which provide hunters with the opportunity to harvest waterfowl. The area provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. This WMA provides habitat for a multitude of species including white-tailed deer, and eastern wild turkeys.

Doe Creek WMA features waterfowl, deer, turkey, and small game hunting. Doe Creek offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Doe Creek and the adjacent Mink Farm Tract are open for archery deer hunting.

The Muzzleloader deer season and April segment of spring turkey season on both Doe Creek and Mink Farm WMA are managed through the Department’s Quota System and are closed to general visitation except for Sundays.

Following Muzzleloader Quota, the Mink Farm Tract is open without quota restriction to Archery deer; and any small game and woodcock in season with the exception of quail. The Doe Creek tract is closed through the duck season except as listed below.

Waterfowl hunting at Doe Creek WMA will no longer be managed under the Department’s quota system. Waterfowl hunting at Doe Creek WMA will now be open to walk-in hunting on Saturday’s only for ½ days during the last two segments of the general waterfowl season. Hunters may hunt until 1:00 PM and must have all decoys up and be away from the impoundments by 2:00 PM. The area is open on Sundays for scouting and wildlife viewing.

Waterfowl Impoundments are filled using a precipitation driven ditching system with supplemental well pumping to increase filling capabilities. Flooding timing from year to year may differ.

Following the end of duck season Doe Creek WMA is open for any small game or furbearer in season in season (except for quail).

Spring Turkey Season for both Mink Farm and Doe Creek is managed in the Departments Quota System.

Please Note:

Doe Creek WMA is not open for the September goose and teal seasons. Doe Creek WMA and Mink Farm are not open for the early urban archery season. This season was initiated for suburban localities as a deer management tool and is not intended for Wildlife Management Areas.

Facilities

A parking area provides access to the WMA and the nearby Mink Farm Tract lease area.
