Big Woods WMA: 2018–2019

Habitat management activities at Parkers Branch tract of Big Woods WMA included herbicide spraying, prescribed fire application, and 120 acres of longleaf pine planting. A 427-acre timber harvest and 866-acre prescribed fire application on the Big Woods WMA helped create habitat attractive to the red-cockaded woodpecker. DWR staff also drilled artificial cavities into longleaf pine trees to attract nesting red-cockaded woodpeckers. Learn more »
