On Thursday, November 1, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) stocked Dorey Park Lake in Henrico County with trout from its Montebello Fish hatchery. This is the first of five planned stockings for this lake. Anglers should expect fast action for catchable size trout, with a few larger fish mixed in for variety. To catch these trout, anglers should come prepared with lures such as spinners or small spoons, baits such as salmon eggs or dough bait, or a fly rod with a flashy streamer.
Dorey Park Lake is located in Dorey Park in eastern Henrico County. Trout will be available to catch throughout the cool weather season. This is a great opportunity to take a family member fishing, reconnect with a friend, or introduce someone to the sport of fishing.
Dorey Park Lake is one of the seven lakes within DGIF’s Urban Program, which stocks trout in metropolitan bodies of water throughout the state. These stockings provide trout fishing opportunities for anglers in their own backyard.
A fishing license and a trout license are required to fish these waters from November 1 through April 30 and can be purchased online at Go Outdoors Virginia, through our Go Outdoors Virginia app, or any authorized retailer. Those who purchase their license online can subscribe to DGIF’s updates, which include the latest information on fishing opportunities throughout the state.
Anglers may keep four trout that measure seven inches or greater. Only one rod may be used at a time.
For anglers that do not have tackle, loaner rods and reels are available at DGIF’s headquarters, located at 7870 Villa Park Drive in Henrico.
