Raffle Offers Rare Opportunity for RVA Peregrine Falcon Chick Encounter
DWR & Triple Crossing Beer partnership brings you closer to RVA’s famous falcons
Richmond, VA — Richmond’s famous peregrine falcon couple are back on their nest atop the west tower of the Riverfront Plaza building in downtown and are currently incubating four eggs. At this point, DWR biologists are planning the next phase of falcon season – chick banding. Once the chicks hatch and are approximately 30 days old, DWR biologists will retrieve them, collect important data, and attach identification bands to each chick. These bands are invaluable in identifying Richmond’s famous offspring as they migrate and hopefully go on to have chicks of their own. And this year, you have a chance to be part of the excitement!
For the first time, DWR and Triple Crossing Beer are partnering to raffle off the opportunity of a lifetime for four RVA falcon fans – the opportunity to join DWR biologists when banding the 2025 chicks!
“We’ve had peregrines breeding downtown for 25 years, and as such the RVA peregrines have become an icon for the greater Richmond area thanks to DWR’s Falcon Cam,” said DWR Watchable Wildlife Biologist Meagan Thomas. “The dedicated viewers are truly invested in the birds, and I’m thrilled that this opportunity will bring the lucky winners face-to-face with the chicks they will watch hatch and grow this year.”
Information about purchasing raffles tickets is available on the DWR Falcon Raffle webpage and tickets will be available for purchase from both DWR and Triple Crossing Beer. Each winning ticket includes the falcon chick encounter and a behind-the-scenes brewery tour with the Triple Crossing production manager as they brew one of their flagship beers.
“At Triple Crossing, we take great pride in our Virginia roots and have a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and vibrant communities that define our state. Partnering with DWR is a natural extension of our commitment to giving back to the place we call home,” said Triple Crossing Production Manager Savannah Roberts.
“This marks a rare occurrence for us. We seldom collaborate with outside organizations, but the opportunity to work with DWR was one we couldn’t pass up. As many of you know, DWR brings us the beloved Falcon Cam each year. We tune in every year to watch as the falcon pair lay their eggs, raise their chicks, and prepare for the big moment: Fledge Day. The connection between this cherished Richmond tradition and our flagship IPA, Falcon Smash, felt too perfect to ignore. This collaboration has been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled to see it finally take flight.”
This unique experience offers a close-up look at conservation in action – an unforgettable moment for nature advocates and bird lovers alike. Winners will be drawn on May 15, 2025. Visit the DWR Falcon Raffle webpage to learn how you can purchase a raffle ticket for this monumental experience!
Proceeds from this raffle will support DWR’s Restore the Wild initiative, funding habitat projects that benefit Virginia Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
