Removal of Lower Section of Elk Creek from Stocked Trout Program

Richmond, VA — The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) wants to inform the public about the removal of the lower section of Elk Creek from the stocked trout program. Due to the loss of the majority of public access along the lower (Clito Road) section of Elk Creek in Grayson County, this portion of the stream will be removed from DWR’s stocked trout program.

For the remainder of the 2021–2022 trout stocking season, the trout scheduled for stocking in the Clito Road section will be redirected to the upper sections of Elk Creek.  Prior to next year’s trout stocking season, a permanent alternative for the redistribution of those fish will be identified.

Anglers fishing stocked trout waters statewide are reminded to respect landowners and their property.  This will help to insure continued stream access, which is essential to the continuation of the stocked trout program.
