Virginia DWR Conservation Police Seeks Accreditation in North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation Program

Richmond, VA – The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is thrilled to announce that its Conservation Police Division is pursuing accreditation in the North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation (NAWLEA) program.

Part of DWR’s mission to conserve, connect, and protect is a steadfast commitment to advancing the natural resources law enforcement profession, which will dovetail with NAWLEA’s focus on the establishment and development of professional standards. DWR is eager to align with NAWLEA’s goals, which include:

  1. Increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of natural resource law enforcement agencies in the delivery of services.
  2. Promoting cooperation and coordination among all components in the criminal justice system and the communities served.
  3. Ensuring appropriate training for natural resource law enforcement personnel.
  4. Promoting public confidence in natural resource law enforcement.
  5. Elevating the professionalism of law enforcement agencies involved in the NAWLEA process.

By seeking accreditation through NAWLEA, DWR’s Conservation Police demonstrates its unwavering commitment to excellence in natural resource law enforcement. The accreditation process will not only enhance the agency’s capabilities but also contribute to the overall improvement of the profession.

Achieving accreditation will further strengthen DWR’s Conservation Police division’s ability to serve and protect local communities and natural resources. The increased effectiveness and coordination resulting from NAWLEA accreditation will positively impact the areas we proudly serve. NAWLEA establishes and maintains professional standards, providing a formal mechanism for agencies to be systematically and objectively measured, evaluated, and updated. The program aims to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism of law enforcement agencies involved in the protection and conservation of natural resources.

We recognize the importance of public confidence in natural resource law enforcement. NAWLEA accreditation will serve as a testament to DWR Conservation Police’s dedication to transparency, professionalism, and the highest standards of service.

The North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation program plays a vital role in advancing the natural resources law enforcement profession. By establishing and maintaining rigorous standards, NAWLEA ensures that agencies across North America adhere to best practices, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

DWR Conservation Police division looks forward to the opportunities and challenges that come with pursuing NAWLEA accreditation. Our commitment to the mission and goals of NAWLEA reflects our ongoing dedication to the communities and natural resources we are honored to serve.
