You’re Invited to Opening Night of the 2025 Restore the Wild Art Exhibition

Celebrating the Atlantic sturgeon through artistic expression

Richmond, VA — The Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) invites the public to join in celebrating the winners and entries of the 2025 Restore the Wild Artwork Competition at a special reception Friday, March 7 from 6–8 p.m. at the Gallery at Main Street Station in Richmond.

This year’s subject, the iconic Atlantic sturgeon, inspired artists across the Commonwealth to enter and have their work showcased just steps from the James River in downtown Richmond. More than 90 pieces were submitted in four categories including, Natural History, Artistic Expression, Youth 11-17, and Youth 10 and Under. The winners of each category, as well as art selected for the 2025 Restore the Wild sticker and fine-art print, will be announced during the opening event. Many artists will have their pieces available for purchase and several donated their art for a silent auction on opening night to raise funds for Restore the Wild.

Benefitting from more than 50 years of revitalization efforts, federally endangered Atlantic sturgeon are again breaching and swimming in the James and other rivers. With this in mind, DWR Chief of Fisheries Dr. Mike Bednarski will be the keynote speaker with DWR Habitat Education Coordinator Stephen Living giving an overview of the DWR Restore the Wild efforts and successes.

The gallery exhibition will continue at Main Street Station through Sunday, March 30.
