Blue Ridge Discovery Center

The Blue Ridge Discovery Center site is approximately 12 acres and located in Smyth County outside of Konnarock. The site can be accessed from the parking area on Whitetop Road. Take exit 35 on Interstate 81 and head South on Whitetop Road (SR 600). The property is located near the Mt. Rogers National Recreational Area of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Allowed activities include hiking and wildlife viewing. Trails and the boardwalk on the property are open to the public. The nature center and other buildings on site are not open to the public. The site contains a newly constructed wetland with a barrier free access trail running adjacent to the wetland. Whitetop Laurel Creek flows adjacent to the property. The site provides viewing opportunities for birds, upland and riparian wildlife species and some aquatic species. Dogs are permitted on site, but they must be leashed and all waste must be picked up.
