CF Highlands Breaks

Description

The CF Highlands Breaks property is approximately 9,259 acres in Dickenson and Buchanan Counties. Allowed activities include hunting, fishing, launching and retrieving canoes and kayaks, wildlife viewing, and ATV riding on designated Southwest Regional Recreational Authority (Spearhead) trails only. The Coal Canyon trailhead is located at Southern Gap Outdoor Adventures. The Ridgeview trailhead is located at the Haysi Kiwanis. These two motorized use trails provide the unique opportunity for hunters to access public hunting opportunities by ATV or UTV. A permit from Spearhead Trails is required, and all trail rules must be followed. Four wheel drive and/or high clearance vehicles are recommended for all other access roads denoted on the map. Expect to encounter natural gas well service trucks that frequent these roads. Dogs are allowed and must be leashed at all times unless they are being used for hunting and/or training during open seasons.

Like the CFH Dante property, the Breaks property offers a variety of habitats and opportunities. Deer, bear, turkey and small game hunting are available. This property also supports elk. Opportunities to view elk are good, especially in the northern and eastern sections of this property. Elk hunters who are successful in the annual Elk License Lottery or Elk Conservation License Program raffle can find many opportunities to pursue elk on this property.
