CF Highlands Vansant

Description

The CF Highlands Vansant property is approximately 4,253 acres in Buchanan County. A small portion of this property, 788 acres near Warfork Rd, has restricted access and is only available to the public via scheduled elk viewing tours through DWR or Breaks Interstate Park. Elk tours generally occur between September and October during the rut. Visit Elk Tours — Breaks Interstate Park and Elk Viewing Tours for more information on how to sign up for a guided elk tour. The Elk Cam, a livestream video camera that offers remote wildlife viewing from September through December, is located on this property. The Elk Cam provides opportunities for anyone with internet connectivity to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Managed access for elk hunting is also allowed. Hunters who receive an elk tag through the Elk License Lottery or Elk Conservation License Raffle will receive information about elk hunting opportunities during the orientation process.

The remaining 3,465 acres of this property are open to general access for the public. Allowable activites include hunting, wildlife viewing, photography and hiking. Access the area from Leemaster Drive off Route 83 just a few miles southwest of Vansant. Hunting for deer, bear and turkey is very good. Elk are also found on these parcels. Elk viewing opportunities are limited because the property is primarily forested. Hunters who draw an elk tag in the annual Elk License Lottery or Elk Conservation License Program raffle can find opportunities to pursue elk on the parcels along Leemaster Drive. Four-wheel drive and/or high clearance vehicles are recommended for access roads on these parcels. Expect to encounter natural gas well service trucks that frequent these roads. Dogs are allowed on the parcels (except the parcels visited during elk tours) and must be leashed at all times unless they are being used for hunting and/or training.
