CP-33 is a special type of statewide CRP with sign-ups offered continuously due to the high priority of the practice. The goal of CP-33 is to create field borders (35 to 120 feet wide) on cropland for Northern Bobwhite quail and songbirds. Participants are paid a sign-up incentive payment per acre, cost-share for establishing the practice, and an annual rental payment on the land taken out of production for the ten- to fifteen-year lifespan of the contract. The buffer can be established by planting a wheat cover crop in the fall and idling the border stands or by planting native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs in the spring.
