Lake Robertson Biologist Report 2022
On April 27, 2022 department biologists and technicians conducted spring sampling using boat electrofishing gear. Four permanent sites are sampled every 2-3 years. Our sites cover a majority of the shoreline habitat circumnavigating the lake. In total, 339 fish were collected during the sample, representing 5 gamefish species (Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, and Channel Catfish).
Largemouth Bass
The Largemouth population is incredibly consistent at Lake Robertson. A total of 240 bass were netted at a catch rate of 240 fish per hour. The bass population looks healthy, the current catch rate is above the long term average. Their sizes ranged from 3-24″ in length with a majority of the catchable sized bass measuring 11-15″ inches in length. The percentage of quality sized bass patrolling the shallows is much higher when compared to other reservoirs within our district. 81% of the bass captured are considered adults or stock sized fish (>8”), within that group 75.4% are considered quality sized largemouth (>12”), 9.2% were >15″, and 1% were >20″. Lake Robertson is an extremely clear lake, which makes it difficult to fish. However, if you are interested in setting your hook into a trophy bass, give Lake Robertson a try.

Sunfish
The sunfish population looks very good and is mostly made up of Bluegill Sunfish with a smaller percentage of Redear Sunfish. The catch rates are strong, we captured 140 per hour and 36 per hour respectively. Anglers interested in harvesting fish for the frying pan should target the sunfish at Lake Robertson. Bluegill average length = 6.6 inches / Redear average length = 7.2 inches. Try casting near the beaver lodges located in the northern arm of the lake. You may also encounter some quality black crappie in that area as well.

Channel Catfish
Advanced fingerling catfish are stocked each fall to enhance recreational angling. Anglers interested in targeting cats should give lake robertson a try. The population is high for a small impoundment and the catfish grow well. During spring samples biologists collected 34 individuals. Their average length was 19 inches with the largest measuring 23 inches. With ample camping and night fishing opportunities available, lake robertson is a great place to target channel catfish.
