Description
These three sites, Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park, Anderson Park, and Peterson’s Yacht Basin, are all located in close proximity to each other on Salter’s Creek. Peterson’s Yacht Basin separates the wetlands of Salter’s Creek from Hampton Roads Harbor. The Basin’s muddy banks provide a foraging site for a variety of migratory shorebirds and waders. Anderson Park consists of 20 acres bordering the Yacht Basin and 18 acres bordering Hampton Roads Harbor. Both Anderson Park and the adjacent Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park, a one-acre tract, provide views of the waters and mudflats of Hampton Roads. The Overlook Park provides a public fishing pier and several benches from which to scan for wintering loons and assorted other waterfowl.
