Description
Elevation: 1326 ft.
Bull Mountain Road traverses a quiet stretch of fields and open forest. This privately owned area provides an opportunity to explore an exquisite area for birds and other wildlife. The lucky observer who follows the small creek paralleling the road for a short distance can see great blue heron, which on occasion fish directly from the road. Numerous species can be seen perched on the roadside telephone lines with mourning doves, eastern phoebe, eastern bluebird, northern mockingbird and eastern meadowlark. The more wooded stretches of the road support brilliant scarlet tanager, vocal red-eyed vireo and retiring ovenbird. Drive this road carefully since eastern box turtles are often found crossing it, while striking butterflies such as pipevine, spicebush and eastern tiger swallowtails, sip moisture from its muddy edges. White-tailed deer, eastern cottontail and woodchuck are frequently seen as they watch travelers pass by.
