Description
Elevation: 1046 ft.
Chatham Heights Park encompasses 9 acres of open parkland bordered by dense forest as well as Jones Creek towards the back of the property. This woodland is worth exploring for the variety of numerous breeding bird species including blue jay, Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, Carolina wren, American robin and northern cardinal. Additional species could drop in during migration; warblers, vireos, tanagers, rose-breasted grosbeak and orioles are all possible visitors. The undergrowth in the area holds numerous russula mushrooms which are beautiful but very poisonous. Poison ivy is also abundant in the area, so please be cautious.
