Wolf Creek Greenway

Description

Elevation: 1076 ft.

Wolf Creek Greenway offers a 2-mile cinder surface trail along Wolf Creek. Large oaks and windswept willows line the creek bed, providing a cover for a variety of songbirds. Resident Carolina wren, song sparrow, and downy woodpecker are common along the trail. In the summer, also look for indigo bunting, American redstart, gray catbird, and brown thrasher. In more open areas, such as the brushy-sloped embankments along a few parts of the greenway, look for American goldfinch as well as numerous eastern bluebird. Butterflies such as great spangled fritillary and eastern tiger swallowtail may be fluttering about in search of blooming wildflowers. Wildlife-viewing opportunities here are at their height during the spring and fall. Look for migrant warblers such as yellow, black-throated green, and pine warblers as well as flycatchers and various thrushes and tanagers.
