Volunteer Opportunities

VTurtleThe Complementary Work Force Program matches volunteers with service needs of DWR. Training will be provided as needed to equip volunteers to do their jobs. Below is a list of just some of the opportunities we have available. Not all opportunities will be available in all Regions.

  • Regional Office Assistant
    Provide assistance to administrative staff and field force by greeting public, answering phone calls, filing, copying, and other light office duties. (Regular/Year-round)
  • Wildlife Damage Inspections and Permit Issuance
    Provide site inspections and utilize training to identify the presence or absence of wildlife damage. Advise landowners of strategies for mitigating damage. Issue permits as necessary to further needed wildlife management objectives. (Regular/Frequent Seasonal Statewide)
  • Trout Stocking
    Assist Fisheries and Law Enforcement personnel in the delivery and stocking of trout. (Occasional Spring/Fall Statewide)
  • Exhibit Staffing/Public Information
    Assist DWR staff in set up, take down, and staffing of various exhibits at shows, fairs, and other events. (Occasional/ Year-round Statewide)
  • Programs and Presentations to Groups
    Become a part of a “Speaker’s Bureau” to provide programs and presentations to various school, community, and sportsmen’s groups. (Occasional/Year-round Statewide)
  • Equipment Repair and Maintenance
    Assist Department staff with routine care and maintenance of cars, boats, tractors, and other equipment, to maintain readiness for management efforts, patrol and emergency preparedness. (Frequent/Year Round Statewide)
  • Research Assistance
    Participate in fishing creel surveys, user/visitor polls, quail call surveys, deer counts, and other programs as needed. Work alone and/or together with biologists and technicians to provide information for resource management research. (Occasional/ Year-round Statewide)
  • Grounds Keeping
    Provide general upkeep, mowing and trash removal at offices, WMA parking lots, public boat ramps, and other Department properties. (Frequent/Seasonal to Year-round Statewide)
