General Description:
This volunteer provides assistance with exhibits, programs and presentations representing VDGIF. The volunteer may work in support of other agency staff, or be the lead person for these activities.
Specific Duties:
- Plans exhibits and programs, and coordinates with VDGIF to obtain necessary materials
- Transports exhibits and equipment
- Assists in set up and take down of exhibits
- Greets school children, the general public, and/or other officials
- Participates in special programs or events
- Makes presentations as requested to schools, civic groups, sportsmen’s organizations, and others
- Hands out literature and provides other information to participants
- Provides reports or summaries of the event attended, as requested
Qualifications:
- Must have good communications skills and be able to speak effectively with individuals and before groups, large and small, of various ages and experience levels
- Must be able to project an image, in appearance and character, that reflects positively on VDGIF and its mission
- Must be able to effectively convey the mission and message of VDGIF to the target audience
- Prior knowledge of VDGIF, its programs and functions is preferred
Training:
- VDGIF Orientation
- On the Job Training
- Experience may substitute for some training
- Advanced – Hunter Education, Outdoor Education, Boating Safety, Project Wild, Virginia Master Naturalists training, Public Speaking (if needed)
Time Commitment:
This position can be accomplished on an occasional/as needed basis.
